The Aces and Monarchs kicked off the first game of the 2022 senior league season with a historic night of firsts. The Aces got out to an early lead in the top of the third, scoring four runs off of an error, a 2 RBI Ryan Park double, and a Steve Hynes single. The Monarchs then scored one run in the bottom of the third inning, from a Thomas Hancock double.
After that, the Aces put up a huge inning, scoring seven runs in the top of the fourth inning thansk to an RBI walk, a wild pitch, a Brady Sheppard single, a 3 RBI double by Steve Hynes, and a Mike Cullihall RBI single.
Down 11-1, the Monarchs had their backs up agaisnt the wall facing the mercy rule, and then history began. Hailey Companion became the first woman in Corner Brook Senior Baseball to record a hit, an RBI, and a run with a one out single to left field. Then Aaron Sheppard hit a two run double, another run scored on an error, a passed ball, Aaron Mercer hit a 2 RBI double, and Thomas Hancock capped off the inning with an RBI single to make it 11-9.
The Monarchs attempted to complete the comeback for the remiannder of the game, but ultimately fell short 11-9. However, not before making senior league history along the way with Hailey Companion and James Lewis recorded their first senior league hits.
